Itineraries for the Best of Ireland

This map shows two simplified itineraries of our 36-day road trip to South Ireland and North Ireland. It took a lot of research to find out the places to see and how much time was required to see them. If you have less time just focus on one area and count the number of days to see nearby segments until they add up to the number of vacation days.

This summary map does not show the specific sights but focuses on the towns we chose as our base camp for 2 to 4 days. There are many other nearby alternatives. Each stopover name is prefixed by a Start and End Day Number beginning with day 1 seeing Powerscourt Gardens and Glendalough and ending with day 36 in Dublin.

I love travel planning and every trip including this one is planned in an Excel spreadsheet tracking sights, kilometres and time. We also have subdivided the Ireland (IE) Trip into four detailed Google Map itineraries ‒ South West, North and Dublin.

From each stopover (bed icon), we will do driving trips around the “Rings” (peninsulas) and “Heads”. As we live in a city 1460 km (907 miles) from the Atlantic Ocean, our primary goal is to enjoy the craggy coastline, verdant farmland and photogenic sights.
